Open Letter on Climate Literacy
to State Superintendent of Public Instruction Candidates

This letter was created by Dick Smith and he considers it one of his best - something that can stand on its own as an educational piece.   Some of the footnotes are as powerful as the text—especially Lonnie Thompson’s at the end.

GOAL of this letter - to educate about two things: (1) the overwhelming scientific consensus and why it is so significant; (2) the three UNIQUELY dangerous problems that make climate change so urgent.  The 14 signers shared the goal of educating the media to give climate change more coverage—more prominent coverage—and more favorable coverage.  Clean Wisconsin liked this letter so much they gave it their widest statewide media distribution, 738 reporters (even sports reporters) editors and news directors in Wisconsin.
